Exempt Sources
BKS also supplies various sources, mostly in disk geometry, with low activity levels, suitable for use even in non-classified areas.
The supplied nuclides include:
Ba-133, C-14, Cd-109, Co-57, Co-60, Cs-137, Eu-152, Fe-55, Mn-54, Na-22, Po-210, Sr-90, Tl-204, Zn-65.
These sources are available with very low activity, generally below regulatory threshold limits: they are therefore classified as exempt sources, which are extremely useful for checking various measuring instruments, such as portal systems, and for preparing control charts in accordance with UNI 10897:2016.
The active part is sealed with epoxy resin. The disk is made of plexiglass.
Each source is labeled with the following information: nuclide, activity, half-life, radiation type, manufacturer, “Radioactive Material,” “USNRC and State License Exempt Quantity,” and the radiation trefoil symbol.
The activity tolerance for standard sources is ±20%.
Sources with a tighter activity tolerance of ±5% are also available; in this case, a Calibration Certificate is provided.
All sources are delivered with a Certificate of Conformity.
An example of the Technical Specifications of the sources is included in the attached document.
